Common issues found with Estate properties.

Internal

• Cluster Flies – Cluster flies are a common pest found in period properties often exploiting gaps both within the roof structure and sash windows. Using the correct equipment, insecticides and techniques can result in s significant improvement, if not complete eradication.
• Textile moth & Beetle – Textile insects can have a devastating effect within the estate property environment, many of these buildings contain taxidermy, antique soft furnishings, tapestries, and items that contain a high proportion of natural fibres. Left uncontrolled, these pests will devour these items leaving irreplaceable items damaged beyond repair.
• Rodents – The majority of old properties, estates and stately homes will contain varying levels of rodent activity. Due to the nature of these building rodents can often become difficult to locate and control. It is imperative you use the services of an experienced rural pest control company to gain and maintain control of rodent activity.
• Woodworm – Woodworm can pose a significant risk to old properties. When these buildings were originally built, they will of install hardwood joists that will of gone into the property uncured. This is the perfect breeding environment for woodworm which can cause significant damage to structural timbers. Woodworm will also infest dated furniture, these pieces can of hold significant value or be irreplaceable. Once established, woodworm can travel through the property at an alarming rate.

Common land-based pest issues.

• Squirrels – Our non-native Grey Squirrel has always posed a risk to the smaller, native red Squirrel however the grey squirrel can prove a significant pest within the woodland, arboretum and parkland setting. Squirrels will often have 2 litters per year although we now regularly see 3 litters been born between February and early September. These agile tree climbers will often ‘ring trees’ this is caused be the squirrel chewing away a continual strip of bark around the tree trunk or limb, one the ring is complete the tree or limb will die off, this can pose a significant problem to the general health of woodlands and trees in general.
• Rabbits – Rabbits are a common pest found throughout the UK, often found in parkland, hedgerows, arable settings and manicured gardens. These seemingly harmless pests can devastate plants, saplings, hedgerows and crops through continual feeding and chewing. Rabbits are also sub-terranean diggers meaning they will happily mine out several tonnes of earth from below your feet.
• Deer – There are 6 species of deer found throughout the UK, we also have farmed deer, parkland deer and wild deer. Each species brings with it their own important part to play in managing a healthy ecosystem however if left unchecked these deer species have a significant, negative impact on woodland, crops and general heard health.
• Fox – Foxes will predate on anything from berries and worms to pheasants, these intelligent creatures can cause I significant drop in the levels of wildlife that may be found on your land. Fox are opportunists and will often take easy or venerable prey like young birds, small fawns and lambs.
• Moles – The small but mighty mole can cause significant damage to both tended gardens but also grassland, moles are sub terrane miners that will push up the soil it has moved to create its underground network. Not only unsightly mole hills can become toxic to sheep causing death while winter feed for dairy cattle can become foul tasting or toxic if contaminated by soil.
