Non-Toxic Pest Control in Wetherby, York, Harrogate, Yorkshire

The family-run team at AgriPest Management is always looking for new and initiative ways to minimise the levels of rodenticides used and left in our environment.

AgriPest Management work closely with councils, large estates and landowners such as Morrisons, Harewood estate, Ribston Park and many others to develop a non-toxic approach to pest management.  These working farms and estates must adhere to regulations, laws and farm assurance auditing bodies by having pest management procedures in place.

These large estates, commercial entities, councils, national trust sites and forestry operators understand the importance of meeting food safety standards, wildlife management responsibilities and health and safety obligations but how do they manage pest infestations without the use of rodenticides?

AgriPest is the UK’s specialist in large-scale pest management solutions and although rodenticides have a significant role to play in dealing with heavy infestations (if used correctly) we are looking into other non-toxic solutions to dealing with pest infestations.

When using rodenticides there is always a small risk of non-target species coming in contact with the poisons, we must also consider the risk of secondary poisoning, this is when a scavenging animal consumes the carcass of a poisoned rodent.

With this in mind, AgriPest is developing pest control procedures that will see a commercial site free of any and all rodenticides.

How do you control rodents without rodenticides?

In a domestic environment, AgriPest will often use traps to control the infestation, however, this can prove incredibly difficult when managing the pest control procedures on a large farm or estate.

The question we need to ask ourselves is why are the pests attracted to the farm in the first place? Well, the answer is relatively simple. Farms will often hold all the essential ingredients that will allow rat and mouse infestations to thrive, food, water, shelter, and warmth. Farms will also be surrounded by a network of hedgerows, grass margins, overgrowth and fields which allows the rodents to move freely and unchallenged.

AgriPest over the last two years have been applying non-lethal control barrier techniques together with proofing and farm management solutions with outstanding results. Understanding and removing the rodent’s needs has resulted in the rats and mice staying out in the hedgerows and fields where the damage and risk they pose are minimal.

AgriPest is now able to offer a 100% non-toxic pest control service to all commercial sites throughout Yorkshire, this includes all pest mammal species ranging from mice to deer.

There will always be a need to control pest species within our rural environment however, we should all be looking at ways to minimise the use of toxic poisons within these areas.

AgriPest offers a practical control management service alternatively, we are now also offering a site inspection and survey service that will allow our team of specialists to teach you and your staff non-lethal and non-toxic control techniques.
