Today, our team attended a property where we successfully removed two wasp nests and one European hornet nest, helping to make the property safe for the homeowners.
One of the most noticeable differences between these two species is their size. As the photographs show, European hornets are significantly larger than common wasps, which can often make them appear far more intimidating.
Despite their impressive size, European hornets are generally less aggressive than common wasps and will usually only sting if they feel threatened or their nest is disturbed. Common wasps, on the other hand, are often much more defensive around their nests and are responsible for the majority of wasp sting incidents in the UK.
Wasp Season is Now in Full Swing
This year has been an exceptionally busy one for our team, with AgriPest Management responding to an unusually high number of wasp nest call-outs across Yorkshire. As we move further into the summer, wasp activity continues to increase, making this the peak time of year for nest removals.
If you’ve noticed a constant stream of wasps or hornets flying to and from the same location, it’s likely that a nest is present. Nests are commonly found in roof spaces, wall cavities, sheds, garages, trees and hedges.
