Where Are the Rats Coming From?
Rats in drainage systems can often be the cause of household infestations.
Around the UK a lot of sewer systems are no longer on regular council baiting programmes it has caused a major increase in the amount of sewer related rat infestations we here at Agripest receive. In November a rat infestation plagued the town of Reading, the problem was largely caused by rats leaving the sewers through household drains.Â
Over time pipe work can become damaged, move or twist due to the level of waste flow that runs through them. This can create fractures or small gaps that rodents will easily exploit. Did you know that a rat can collapse its body to the size of its skull? This means they can enter through very small gaps in very tight spaces.
Now the rats have access straight into the voids or foundations, from here they can often use this to access most areas within the house. This is a problem that needs to be dealt with immediately. Solutions to Getting Rid of a Rat Infestation
There are options to eliminate the threat of an infestation; prices vary with these expert services:
- The most cost effective and a practical option is to install sewage drain flaps in the drainage system. Sewage drain flaps are one way outlet valves (non-return valves) that will allow waste out but will prevent anything coming up the system. Rats won’t be able to enter up into the sewage pipes there by eliminating the rodents from causing you stress. For your peace of mind give us a call for supply or we do installation as well: Get In Touch
- Another option is smoke testing, this will help locate the fault within the system and depending on the location it may be an easy fix.
- Finally cameras can be sent up the system, this method gives us the ability to see in real time what’s going on in the sewer system, locate the infestation and fix the problem.
AgriPest Management are trained in the methods of all these drainage system checks as well many other services.
It really requires a professional with experience to get this job right, often other pest control companies oversee the drains and the customer may suffer from recurring issues in the long run.
