Recently we were contacted by an estate agent to advise and suggest a solution to a pigeon problem within the Montpellier area of Harrogate, the feral pigeons had taken up roost at the rear of a property and begun causing quite a mess!
The feral pigeon is derived from the rock dove, as its name suggests the rock dove nests and roosts within cliff faces, our common feral pigeon still has certain traits of the rock dove, they like to perch and roost on ledges and frequently this ends up being on window ledges, external piping and loft rafters.
In this instance the Harrogate pigeons had taken to window ledges, an external soil pipe and a security light, leading to pigeon faeces being dropped over the ledges, walls and floor. Not only is this unsightly but has the potential risk to human health.
The Solution
The best cause of action in this instance was to install a bird spike to the Harrogate property. The bird spike deters the pigeons from landing on the structures, to apply the bird spike there are two major considerations:
- Pigeon faeces can be extremely hazardous so a full face mask is required to clean
- The adhesive used to apply the spike must be ultra-strong to prevent the bird spike being knocked off.
Now the pigeon deterrent has been applied we will be carrying out 2 follow up checks to ensure the treatment has been successful.
