Country cover clothing – Made in Britain!
FORTIS Field Smock – £120
FORTIS Falkland trousers, fully padded – £140
The Country cover clothing items were purchased from this year’s Great Yorkshire show in Harrogate. The amount of waterproof clothes I have purchased in the past is ridiculous and was finding myself working in torn, uncomfortable clothing. One of the items on the show’s purchase list was some new winter clothing and I decided to visit a couple of the store holders to ask advice on various items.
On first entering the Country Covers stall it was clear the clothing they were producing was good quality, the customer service was also excellent, all my questions were answered and it was explained in a way that I wasn’t required to know all the technical info. However the selling of the product is easy, the test was whether they would live up to the sales patter.
I decided to get the field smock (£120) and the Falkland trousers (£140) both with rip stop technology and wind/waterproof protection. The trousers have not left my legs in the past month and I am glad to report so far so good. We use our quad daily, we travel over 50mph in all weathers and the trousers have kept me both warm and dry. They deal well with sharp vegetation, fence climbing and general use, the only fault I have found it the waist fastening points, they could do with additional Velcro to provide a tighter seal under the side straps. Also they have ankle string ties, I found them irritating as they required undoing depending on the footwear (boots or wellies), and the knots tightened up and get covered in mud.
The smock has had a little less use, however it is extremely comfortable, warm and waterproof. The practical pockets are ideal for bulky items like gloves, keys etc. The only issue I have is the struggle taking it off when I have a fleece underneath. This is down to it being a pull-over smock and not anything to do with the product design. All in all they are fantastic, practical items. If you are looking for warm, waterproof well priced clothing these guys are worth a look.
I was told by the family run British based company that any alterations, repairs or concerns I had regarding the items to contact them direct and they would deal with the issue immediately.
Buying British is obviously important to us, but buying products that will do what is asked of them and last a long time are worth their weight in gold.
Update 18/11/19 – Country Covers website is now no longer running.
